In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. Ha, Meem.
2. Ain, Sin, Qaf.
3. Thus does God, the Almighty, the all-Wise, reveal to you as He did to those before you.
4. His is whatever in the earth, and He is the Highest, the Greatest.
5. Nigh it is that the heaven may cleave asunder from above (in awe), while angels are celebrating the praise of their Lord, seeking forgiveness for the inhabitants of the earth. Be it known that God alone is the oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
6. God watches over those who take aught besides God as their guardians, and you are not a guardian over them.
7. Thus have We revealed to you (Muhammad) an Arabic Qur’an so that you may warn the mother-city (Mecca) and those around it, and that you may warn of the day of gathering together, the day wherein there should be no doubt. A party shall (then) be in the garden, and a party in the burning Fire.
8. Had God so pleased, He would certainly have made them a single nation, but He admits whomsoever He wills into His mercy. There is no guardian nor helper for the unjust.
9. Or have they taken besides Him other guardians? Yet God is the Guardian, and He grants life to the dead and He is omni-Potent over all things.
10. In whatever you differ, its decision is to God; that is your God, my Lord; on Him do I rely, and unto Him (alone) do I return,
11. Originator of the heavens and the earth; He created mates for you, of your own selves, and of the cattle pairs (male and female) thereby He may multiply you. Nothing whatsoever is like unto Him, and He is the all-Hearing, the all-Seeing.
12. His are the treasures of the heavens and the earth. He amplifies the sustenance to whomsoever He wills and straitens; verily He knows all things.
13. He has prescribed for you the religion of what He ordained to Noah and that which We revealed to you and what We ordained to Abraham, Moses and Jesus; that is: “Establish the religion and do not be divided therein.” Hard is it to the disbelievers that which you call them to. God chooses to Himself whomsoever He wills, and He guides to Himself whosoever turns to Him.
14. Nor were they divided until the knowledge had come to them out of rivalry among themselves. Had no word gone forth from your Lord (respiting them) to a fixed time, the affairs would have certainly been decided between them. Verily those who were made the heirs to the Book after them are certainly in disquieting doubt about it.
15. For this then you invite on, and be steadfast as you are commanded. Do not follow their vain desires, and say: “I believe in what God as sent down of the Book, and I have been commanded to do justice among you; God is our Lord and yours; upon us (is the responsibility of) our deeds, and upon you yours. No contention (need be) between us and you; God will gather us together, and to Him is the ultimate return.”
16. Those who dispute about God after response was made unto Him, their argument is vain to their Lord, and upon them is the Wrath, and for them is a severe chastisement.
17. God is He Who sent down the Book with truth and the balance, and what do you know? Haply the Hour (of reckoning) is nigh.
18. Those who do not believe in it hasten it on, and those who believe are dreadful thereof. Do not they know that it is the truth? Beware! Verily those who dispute about the Hour are far astray.
19. God is Benign to His servants; He provides sustenance to whomsoever He wills, and He is the Almighty, the omni-Potent.
20. Whosoever desires the tilth of the hereafter, We increase for him in his tilth; whosoever desires the tilth of this world, We give him thereof, and for him shall be no share in the hereafter.
21. Or do they have partners (unto God) who have prescribed for them any religion which God does not sanction? Had it not been for the word of decision, the decision would have certainly been made between them, and verily for the unjust there shall be a painful chastisement.
22. (On that day) you will see the unjust alarmed for what they earned and (the chastisement) shall be in the meadows of the garden; for them shall be whatever they please with their Lord; that is the greatest grace.
23. That is (one) of the glad tidings of which God gives to those who do good deeds. Say: “I do not ask you for any reward for it save the love of my relatives, and whosoever earns good, We increase for him the good therein; verily God is oft- Forgiving, Appreciator (of good deeds).”
24. Or do they say “He has forged a lie against God”? Had God willed, He would have sealed your heart, and yet He would blot out the falsehood and prove the truth with His words; verily He knows best whatever is in the hearts.
25. He it is Who accepts repentance from His servants and forgives sins, and He knows whatever you do.
26. He responds to those who believe and do good deeds and increases to them of His grace. For the disbelievers shall be a severe torment.
27. Should God amplify the sustenance to His servants, they would certainly rebel in the world, but He sends it down by measure as He pleases; verily He is all-Aware, all-Seeing of His servants.
28. He it is Who sends down the rain after they have despaired and spreads His mercy. He is the Guardian, the Praised.
29. Among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and (the creation of) what He has spread out in both of them of the animate beings and for their gathering together when He wills; He is the omni-Potent.
30. Whatever befalls you of a misfortune, it is (due to) what your own hands have wrought, and He pardons most of your sins.
31. You cannot frustrate God’s Will in the earth, and there is no guardian or helper for you other than God.
32. And among His signs are the ships sailing in the sea like mountains.
33. If He wills, He lulls the wind that they lie motionless on the surface; verily in this are signs for every one steadfast, grateful.
34. Or He may cause them to perish for what they have wrought, and (yet) He (still) pardons most.
35. That haply those who dispute Our signs may know; for them there is no refuge.
36. And whatever you are given is but a provision for the life of this world, and what is with God is better and more lasting for those who believe and on their Lord rely.
37. Those who shun the great sins and filthiness, and when angry they forgive;
38. Those who respond to their Lord and establish prayer, and conduct their affairs with counsel among themselves, and they spend of what We have provided them with,
39. And those who, when afflicted with great wrong, become (eventually) victorious.
40. The recompense for an evil shall be an ill-return like it, but if one pardons and amends, his reward is incumbent on God; verily He does not love unjust people.
41. Whosoever defends himself after being oppressed, then there is no way against these to be blamed.
42. The way (to blame) is against those who do injustice to people and transgress in the world unjustly; for these shall be a painful chastisement.
43. Indeed, whosoever remains patient and forgives, verily it is an act of great resolution.
44. Whomsoever God permits to stray, there shall be no guardian after it for him, and you shall behold the unjust when they see the chastisement, saying: “Is there any way to return?”
45. And you shall see them brought to it humiliated, disgraced, looking with a stealthy glance. Those who believe shall say: “Verily the losers are those who lost their people on the day of reckoning.” Beware! The unjust shall surely be in a lasting torment.
46. There shall be no guardian for them to help besides God. Whomsoever God allows to stray, there shall be no other way for him to be guided to the right path.
47. Respond to your Lord before a day comes to you from God for which there is no averting; you shall not have any refuge on that day, nor will your denial be of any avail.
48. If they turn away (from you, O Muhammad), then We have not sent you as a watcher over them. On you is naught but only to convey (Our Message). Verily when We make man taste mercy from Us, He rejoices thereby, and if any harm afflicts them for what they did with their own hands, man will surely then turns ingrate.
49. God’s is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates whatever He wills. He blesses whomsoever He pleases with females, and He blesses whomsoever He wishes with males.
50. Or He mingles them, males and females, and makes whomsoever He wills barren; verily He is the all-Knowing, the all-Powerful.
51. It is not for any man that God should speak to him save by revelation or from behind a veil, or by sending a messenger (angel) and to reveal by His permission what He pleases; verily He is the Most High, the all-Wise.
52. Thus did We reveal to you Our guidance by Our command; you did not know what the Book (Qur’an) was, nor the faith, but We made it a light, guiding thereby whomsoever We please of Our servants, and verily a guide to the Right Path,
53. The path of God Whose is whatsoever in the heavens and the earth. Be it known that to God (alone) shall all affairs be referred.
